Hadith and Seerah Research awards will be granted annually at the level of masters and doctorate theses both nationally and internationally in order to acknowledge researchers specializing in the topics of the Sunnah and Seerah, as well as contribute to the

Scientific and academic research on the topics of Hadith and Seerah in Turkey and throughout the world. Furthermore, a Hadith and Seerah Service Honorary Award will be

granted to individuals who have devoted their lives to the studies of

Hadith and Seerah, and those who have shaped this field through their

work. Applications forms the honorary award nominees can be completed by

those visiting the Lastprophet.info Website. The nominee with the

greatest number of submissions made to his or her name in the allotted

time, will be presented with the honorary award.

Requirements for participation in the thesis competition:

1.The competition is open to masters and doctoral theses works on

Hadith and Seerah which were submitted and successfully defended at

university's that are part of the Turkish Republic between the

academic years of Oct. 4, 2004-Dec. 31, 2009.

2.It is possible to take part in the competition with previously published theses.

3.The projects participating in the competition must be in either

English or Turkish.

4.Administrative members of the Meridyen Support Association, which is

organizing this event, may not participate in this competition.

Application to the competition:

Those looking to participate in the competition should complete the

application form without omitting any of the required information and

mail or submit it so that it is received no later than Feb. 15, 2010

at 5:00 p.m. Any postal problems such as the files becoming lost in

the mail or delayed delivery will not be considered during this

competition.

Items to be included in the application file:

*Application form

*Two recent passport photos.

*An introductory page which contains a preface about the topic of

research and methods employed during the study.

*A document from the concerned institute stating the acceptance of the

thesis or indicating graduation.

*All of the research that is submitted to the competition should be

submitted on single copy CD in a Word document, including visuals, if

applicable.

*There is no page limitation for the submissions in the competition.

*Works which have previously been submitted for the Hadith and Seerah

Research Award will not be permitted to participate in the competition

for a second time.

The Jury

Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of six jury members:

Evaluation criteria:

Jury members will evaluate the submissions based on the criteria

listed below, in terms of their contribution, approach and

intellectual stance in the domains of Hadith and Seerah:

• The conformity of the work to the form of the competition.
• Remaining within in the boundaries of the competition's content.
• It's contribution to the development of scientific and academic works.
• It's contribution to the fields of Hadith and Seerah in terms of

intellectual stance and approach.

• The originality of the subject and style.
• It's adherence to the criteria of a scientific work.
• Its referencing of national and international work in the field.
• The depth of the research and level of commentary.

Awards

The evaluation and awarding of the works participating in the

competition will take place as follows:

Masters thesis (1) 4000 TL

Doctoral thesis (1) 6000 TL

The decision on whether an entry will be a recipient of an award is at

the complete discretion of the jury.

If two entries are found to be worthy of an award following an

evalution, then the award will be distributed equally between the two

recipients.

All of the works which participate in the competition will be held by

the Meridyen Support Committee and will not be returned to the

participants.

The words will be returned to the their owners during the 2010

Lastprophet.info Hadith and Seerah Research Award ceremony. The

recipients of the award will be announced to the press and public

during the ceremony and afterward through various events.
