Why Risk It?

I love you and want to trust you completely.  I don't want any doubt in my heart about you.  I know you love Allah and want to please Him.  But don't you realize that if you lie all that is jeopardized?

I want my love for you to grow for the sake of Allah because you love me for His sake.  We pray together and that love grows.  But don't you realize that if you lie all that is jeopardized?

I make dua for your iman to increase.  I believe Allah will give you that and more if only you strive for it.  I hope you too are praying for me.  But don't you realize that if you lie all that is jeopardized?

We are from the best of communities and share in the beauty of Ramadan.  We break our fast together seeking Allah's forgiveness, mercy, and reward.  But don't you realize that if you lie all that is jeopardized?

You give a portion of your money to the poor as zakat and sadaqa.  You pray that Allah will accept it from you?  But don't you realize that if you lie all that is jeopardized?

You are kind to animals because they are Allah's creation.  Since you realize that Allah also entrusted the environment to us, you are careful not to leave trash behind when outdoors.  But don't you realize that if you lie all that is jeopardized?

You are careful not to disturb your neighbors and to always greet them kindly.  You even send nice foods over to their houses as gifts from time to time.  But don't you realize that if you lie all that is jeopardized?

You work hard.  Those who depend on you can see that and are grateful.  But don't you realize that if you lie all that is jeopardized?

I know you sincerely love your brothers and sisters.  If they ever need you, I know you will be there for them as you have done so many times already.  But don't you realize that if you lie all that is jeopardized?

You can't bear to see a small child cry.  You immediately want to comfort it.  Your heart is tender and merciful.  But don't you realize that if you lie all that is jeopardized?

You want to bring joy to others.  You never want to let anyone down.  But don't you realize that if you lie all that is jeopardized?

Your knowledge and memory are amazing, mashaAllah.  You are so capable.  You can achieve so much with so little effort.  Those who see this have high hopes for you.  But don't you realize that if you lie all that is jeopardized?

When dealing with money, you are always generous.  You give full rights when trading and often forgive others' debts to you.  But don't you realize that if you lie all is jeopardized?

As Ibn Mas'ud related, Rasulullah(saw) said:

Keep telling the truth, for truthfulness leads to good deeds, and good deeds lead to Paradise.  If someone continues to speak the truth, and makes truth his target, then he will be recorded in Allah's presence as being a truthful person.  Avoid lying, for lying leads to wrongdoing, and wrongdoing leads to Hell; and if a man continues to tell lies, and makes lying his target, he will be recorded in Allah's presence as a liar.  (Bukhari, Muslim)

Whether to a child about taking them to the park or your parents about what you are doing or your teacher about your homework or to your boss about coming in on time or to your spouse about how you spent the money or to your friends to make them laugh or to yourself about obeying one of Allah's commands... don't you realize that each lie puts you that much closer to loosing all that is good in this life and the next?  Don't you realize that the loss caused by lying is eternal?  Why risk it?

Aim for the truth and pray Allah helps you.

God's Messenger kissed Al-Hasan bin Ali (his grandchild) while Al-Aqra' bin Habis At-Tamim was sitting beside him. Al-Aqra said, "I have ten children and I have never kissed anyone of them", God's Messenger cast a look at him and said, "Whoever is not merciful to others will not be treated mercifully." (Bukhari, Good Manners and Form (Al-Adab), 18)
