Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock

The Al-Aqsa Mosque... the home of prophets, the first kiblah of Muslims and the symbolic stopover of the Miraj journey that is a place of worship...

This place of worship which is one of the lasting symbols in our minds has unfortunately been mistaken with the Qubbat-us Sakhra (The Mosque of Omar) which is located right beside it.  The magnificent golden yellow dome of the Qubbat us Sakhra has, over time, been depicted as the symbol of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. This misunderstanding is so rampant that it is not even strange for this incorrect image to be displayed in newspapers.

We felt it necessary to highlight this common misconception dealing with the Al-Aqsa Mosque, whose meaning has increased for people along with the developments that have been taking place over the past few centuries. We must note at this point that some evaluations of this matter argue that this disinformation about the mosque is part of a purposeful plan which is a reflection of a psychological campaign surround the sacred mosque. These are views that can be debated; however, we believe that it is our duty to correctly introduce both places of worship.

God's Messenger kissed Al-Hasan bin Ali (his grandchild) while Al-Aqra' bin Habis At-Tamim was sitting beside him. Al-Aqra said, "I have ten children and I have never kissed anyone of them", God's Messenger cast a look at him and said, "Whoever is not merciful to others will not be treated mercifully." (Bukhari, Good Manners and Form (Al-Adab), 18)
