An international seminar on Sirah is being organised under the joint auspices of the National Sirah Study Centre, Islamic Research Institute and Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue, International Islamic University, Islamabad (26-28 March, 2011) to take stock of the different approaches to the subject, and to attempt critical surveys of the major studies on Sirah along with their theoretical underpinnings during the modern period. By carefully analysing the different attitudes, trends, methodologies and contents of these writings an effort will be made to undertake a holistic evaluation of this period and to explore new vistas for future studies on Sirah.
Writing In Many Languages
Although the three-day seminar will be focused on Sirah works in three languages—Arabic, English and Urdu—an attempt will also be made to bring to light, as far as possible, various dimensions of Sirah writing in other important languages such as Turkish, Persian, Bengali, Malay/Indonesian, French and German. This seminar forms a part of the International Islamic University’s Silver Jubilee celebrations.
