The Miraculous Meal of the Night

14 February 2026

Ramadan is the time when, as a servant of Allah, I feel my faith and reverence for Him most deeply. Fasting is a way of showing devotion to Allah.  It doesn't need to be shown in a way that everyone can see; its sincerity is known only to Allah. Yet beyond that, despite the weakness of long Ramadan days and the fatigue of tarawih prayers that stretch late into the night, getting up at an unusual hour to prepare a dignified meal becomes a moment when surrender to Allah above one’s habits and physical comfort.

The suhoor table is a powerful means of transformation. It proves that even the most instinctive human act—eating—can be brought under the command of Allah and aligned with the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh). This makes us remember that we can follow the rest of the rules and suggestions of our religion.

Despite tiredness and sleeplessness, the men and women who rise to prepare suhoor for their families (yes, there are men who do this) show true submission. In those special moments just before dawn, the homes whose windows glow with light and whose kitchens echo with gentle sounds shine for the inhabitants of the heavens like stars on the earth. They resemble their celestial brothers and sisters for a month.
